You can participate in all the pomp and ceremony unit you drop dead. You can wear the scared patriotic colors of red, white, and blue till you wear nothing else. You can sing patriotic songs till you go hoarse. You can sing Star Spangled Banner, The Battle Hymn of the Republic till to you weep. You can solute the troops, solute the Flag till you burst with pride. You can wrap yourself in Old Glory till your last. But complacency is not caring.
To be proud of this country is not to point out our short comings. To be proud is to be complacent with a broken system. To be proud is not to work towards a better country. To be proud is not to care. To be proud is not to notice. To be proud is to turn our backs. This is complacency. Complacency is not caring.
The Patriot you say? Well, let me tell you…
To love this country is to ever so gently push her to new goals. To love her is to point out the short comings. To love her is to fix a broken system. To love her is to make her the best she can be. To love her is to care. To lover her is to notice. To lover her is not turn our backs. To love America is to see a brighter future. This is caring. This is the true Patriot.
