Brigadeiros (sweet condensed milk & cocoa powder balls) are the ultimate Brazilian birthday party candy. These tasty treats are at every Brazilian birthday party and tables are covered in hundreds if not thousands of brigadeiros. Of course the children love them while parents are continuously telling their children not to have another. The maids like watching the children eating the brigadeiros for they are the ones who spend hours making and rolling the chocolate balls. For me, a birthday is not a complete birthday without brigadeiros. They really do complete a birthday party.
3 Tbsp Unsweetened cocoa powder
1 Tbsp butter
1, 14oz can sweetened condensed milk
In a small, heavy sauce pan, over medium heat, combine cocoa, butter and condensed milk. Cook, stirring until thickened, about 10 minutes. Remove from heat and let set until cool enough to handle. Form into balls and roll in chocolate sprinkles or shredded coconut. Eat at once or chill until serving.
*If using a candy thermometer, cook until soft ball, 115*F and no longer firm ball, 120*F. If mixture doesn’t go very high up thermometer, take off at soft ball because temperature may not be accurate. Using a smaller sauce pan will help with accuracy.
